Michael W. Atwell, age 63 of Lancaster, Texas, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2020. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 6, 1957 to the late Arthur and Billie (Yagle) Atwell. Michael served the public many years in various law enforcement rolls and departments including Lancaster, Wilmer, Hutchins, Ellis County and most recently serving as dispatcher in the Ferris Police Department. His family in arms mourn their loss and will forever honor his memory. Outside of his work in Law Enforcement, Michael had a talent for training dogs for fun and for service, he loved fishing at Lake Waxahachie, cheering on the Texas Rangers and was very proud of his tattoo art. He enjoyed listening to the music of ZZ Top, Van Halen and other blues rock artists, watching his favorite movie: The Wizard of Oz or watching his favorite reality tv shows. He met the love of his life Laura Russell in 1998 and proposed to her in 2005 on a trip to Shreveport, Louisiana; They shared 22 wonderful years together.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his spouse Laura Russell of Lancaster; sons: Michael Toby Atwell of Waxahachie and Kaleb Michael Atwell of Lancaster; sisters: Susan Cress of Bicknell, Indiana, Barbara Williamson of Bedford, Indiana, and Regina and husband John Wiley of Quincey, Indiana; as well as nieces, nephews and numerous other extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at Green Funeral Home. Mask Required.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at Green Funeral Home. Mask required. Ferris Police Department Chaplain Brooks M. Williams, officiating.
