Jerry Dean Helton

Jerry Dean Helton, age 77, of Ferris, Texas passed away October 24, 2021. He was born November 30, 1943 in Corsicana, Texas to the late Aldine and Mary Nell (Northern) Helton. The family later moved to Hillsboro, Texas where he graduated high school. Afterwards Jerry joined the US Marines serving four years in the third Battalion, third Marines from 1965 to 1969, including a year in Vietnam. He moved back to the DFW area where he began work at the Pollock Paper Distributors, then in 1975 began his family and his 31 year career with the US postal Service. In 1980, he met and married Doris Hutchings, and together they traveled all over North America, making several trips to Hawaii, Canada, the East Coast, Niagara Falls, and the mountains of the West Coast. He loved reuniting with his fellow Vietnam Veterans and with family at their reunion gatherings. His friendly spirit was felt by all he was acquainted with, as he easily made new friends everywhere he went with a joke, a poke and a long conversation about anything and everything. He and Doris are 11 year members of the Community Baptist Church in Ferris, Texas.
He is preceded by his parents and son Joe Wayne Menton.
He is survived by loving wife Doris Helton of Ferris; daughter Brandais and husband Robert Jones of Kailua, Hawaii; son Eddie and wife Lisa Menton of Waxahachie; grandchildren: Kaiya, Nova, Aidan, David and wife Miranda and Aaron and wife Amanda; great-grandchild Eli; brothers: Tony and wife Lori Helton of Burleson, Curtis and wife Carol Ann Malone of Burleson and Bill and Terry Malone of Lake Whitney; aunt Betty Northern of Lubbock; uncle Huey Helton of Irene, TX as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, October 28, 2021 at Green Funeral Home
Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Friday, October 29, 2021 at Green Funeral Home. Brother Mickey Moriarty officiating.
Committal will follow at the Myrtle Cemetery in Ennis, Texas.
