Gregorio “Goyo” Cantu, Sr. Obituary

Gregorio “Goyo” Cantu Sr, de 76 años de Red Oak, Texas, falleció el 20 de enero de 2023 rodeado de su amada familia. Nació en Anáhuac, Nuevo León, México el 16 de noviembre de 1946 de los difuntos Graciano Cantu y Amada Nino. Creció trabajando en la granja de su familia, criando caballos y sembrando y cosechando todo tipo de cultivos. Se caso con Juanita Medrano y formaron su familia. También trabajó como albañil y disfrutó trabajando en los autos como mecánico y podía arreglar casi cualquier cosa. Siempre estaba dispuesto a ayudar a los demás en cualquier tarea, como llevar a amigos y familiares a las citas médicas. Le encantaba preparar el desayuno para su familia y también hacer tortillas, menudo y barbacoa. Siempre fue un bromista y le encantaba hacer reír a los demás y disfrutaba de muchos viajes a Houston para visitar a sus hermanos. Era un padre estricto, pero se suavizó con la edad y amaba y adoraba a sus nietos, y siempre se podía contar con él para que los recogiera de la escuela. Era fanático de los Texas Rangers y le encantaba jugar béisbol en su juventud, además de escuchar música y bailar. Él será extrañado por todos los que lo conocieron.
Le precedieron en la muerte sus padres Graciano Cantu y Amada Nino; hermano Roberto Cantú y hermano Manuel Cantú. Le sobreviven su amada esposa Juanita Medrano DeCantú; hija Sanjuana y Marcial Loa; Gregorio Jr y esposa Sandra Cantú; Gerardo y esposa Bañeza Cantú; crió como sus hijos: Javier Robles, Jr., Matthew Cantú y Gerardo Cantú, Jr.; diez nietos; un bisnieto; hermanos: Margarito Cantú, Oscar Cantú, Rosa Cantú, Armandina Coronado, Amada Espinosa, María Palomares y Maricela de Alba.

Gregorio “Goyo” Cantu Sr, age 76 of Red Oak, Texas passed away January 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Anahuac, Nuevo León, Mexico on November 16, 1946 to the late Graciano Cantu and Amada Nino. He grew up working on his family’s farm, raising horses and planting and harvesting all kinds of crops. He married Juanita Medrano and they begin their family. He also worked as a brick and stone mason and enjoyed tinkering on cars as a mechanic and could fix almost anything. He was always willing to help others in any task, like taking friends and family to doctor appointments. He loved to cook breakfast for his family, and also make tortillas, menudo and barbacoa. He was always a joker and loved to make others laugh and enjoyed many trips to Houston visiting his siblings. He was a strict father, but softened with age and loved and adored his grandchildren, and could always be counted on to pick them up from school. He was a Texas Rangers fan and loved to play baseball in his youth as well as listening to music and dancing. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Graciano Cantu and Amada Nino; brother Roberto Cantu and brother Manuel Cantu.

He is survived by loving wife Juanita Medrano DeCantu; daughter Sanjuana and Marcial Loa; Gregorio Jr and wife Sandra Cantu; Gerardo and wife Baneza Cantu; raised as his sons: Javier Robles, Jr, Matthew Cantu and Gerardo Cantu, Jr.; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; siblings: Margarito Cantu, Oscar Cantu, Rosa Cantu, Armandina Coronado, Amada Espinosa, Maria Palomares, and Maricela de Alba.

Visitation will be 12:00 PM - 8:00 PM with Rosary at 7:00 PM Monday, January 23, 2023 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.

Funeral will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas. Deacon Jose Muniz officiating. 

Interment will follow at Red Oak Cemetery, Red Oak, Texas.
