Arlene Ila (Autrey) Mitchell

Arlene Ila (Autrey) Mitchell, age 97 of Ferris, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2020. She was born in Boyce, Texas in January of 1923 to the late Isaac Melton and Mamie Irene (Shanz) Autery. She attended Ferris High School and graduated valedictorian of the class of 1940. She met the love of her life, Frank Mitchell in school and after many letters back and forth during WWII, they were married in Ellis County on May 15, 1945. During WWII she contributed as a Rosie The Riveter for North American Aviation where she worked on the P51 Mustangs. Arlene worked as office manager for many years at Marilyn Belts in Ferris.  She loved quilting, researching family genealogy and being with family for all the special holidays. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church Ferris since 1948. Arlene love to travel and went on several bus tours, various cruises and other trips to Alaska and an unforgettable European tour.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Frank Mitchell; her parents Isaac and Mamie Autrey; grandson Mitchell Hamm; son-in-law Michael Evans; siblings: Ethel Faye Webb, Avon Autrey and Gerylene King.

She is survived by her daughters: Lori Evans of Bryan and Rhonda and husband Nick Hamm of Ferris; grandchildren: Jenny Evans of College Station, Kevin and wife Rachael Evans of College Station, Justin Hamm of Ferris and granddaughter-in-law Autumn Hamm of Flower Mound; grandchildren: Phoenix, Paiten, Braeden, Ryan and Hallie; brother William Autrey of Carrollton and numerous other nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 13, 2020 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM, with Graveside Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 PM at Ferris Memorial Park North, Ferris, Texas. Kevin Evans Officiating.
