Tirso Cuellar, Jr. age 82 of Red Oak, Texas passed away November 19, 2022. He was born in Bartlett, Texas June 5, 1940 to the late Tirso Sr. and Guadalupe (Davila) Cuellar. The oldest of 15 children, he helped his family as they followed harvests and worked fields all the way to Idaho and Oregon. He graduated from Taft High School and later joined the Marines in 1960. After his service he married Maria Valdez September 26, 1964 in Hereford, Texas. To this union they were blessed with three children. Tirso later attended Amarillo College studying Criminal Justice receiving his Associate Degree. While in Amarillo he worked for the Police Department and in 1974 he moved his family to the McAllen, Texas area for Border Patrol Academy; later transferring to Temple, Texas beginning his career as a Federal Agent with the Department of Agriculture with OIG Investigations. Tirso was always an early riser and self sufficient; over the years his focus and determination to be the best at his job got him promoted several times, ultimately to Assistant to the Attorney General for the US Department of Agriculture; retiring in 1996. After retirement he relaxed a lot and loved to travel to see friends and family and take family trips to Padre Island. He played some golf, but dedicated most of his time to family and his grandchildren. He could often be found on the phone with his siblings and former coworkers; always ready to offer sound advice on any situation. Tirso will be missed by all who knew him.
He is proceeded in death by his parents and five siblings: Alex, Jose, Jesus, Maria and Juana.
He is survived by his loving wife Maria V. “Mary” Cuellar of Red Oak; children: Javier and wife Gracie Cuellar of Red Oak, Dominic and wife Jade Cuellar of Dallas and Lisa Cuellar of Red Oak; seven grandchildren: Nicole, Cris, Brianna, Gracie, Arnold, Andrew and Ericka; two great-grandchildren: Reed and David Lee; nine siblings: Robert, Marguerita, Marta, Selma, Lupe, Oralia, Rosa, Alicia and Frances; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.
Funeral service will be 11 AM Wednesday, November 23, 2022 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.
