Sue Elmore, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away on October 31, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on June 10, 1943, in Danville, Illinois, she was the daughter of Thelmer Battson and Thelma Wright. Sue dedicated her life to her family, her faith and her work in accounting for her husband's businesses and various companies.
Married to Doyle Elmore for 65 wonderful years, Sue embodied love and kindness. Her devotion to her family extended to children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews; who were her pride and joy. A godly woman with an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, she attended church throughout her life, expressing compassion and empathy for those around her. Known for her kindness and ability to connect with anyone, she had a remarkable gift for making people feel valued.
In addition to her love for family and faith, Sue was passionate about bowling, attending dirt track races and supporting her sons and grandsons at sporting events. Known as the "Belle of the Ball" at softball, baseball and football games, she cherished every moment spent cheering on her family. She and Doyle had a playful agreement: if they enjoyed a Saturday night at the races, they would honor Sunday with church. This balance reflected her dedication to both leisure and spirituality.
Sue was a hard worker who instilled a strong work ethic in her sons. Her resilience shone through life's challenges, and her nurturing nature meant she always took care of those she loved. Her warm spirit brought joy to all who knew her. Her famous cornbread stuffing—a cherished family recipe—will forever remind her loved ones of her kitchen filled with warmth and love.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thelmer and Thelma; her siblings: Christine, Pauline, Junior, Gene and Jim; and her three precious daughters: Margaret, Marjorie and Misty.
Sue is survived by her dedicated and loving husband of 65 years, Doyle Elmore; her sons: Marlon Elmore and wife Deborah, and Marc Elmore and husband Brian; her grandchildren: Jarrod, Jacob and Noah; her sister, Verla Stanford; and numerous extended family for whom she cared deeply.
