Shirley Wilson Obituary

Shirley Ann Woodard Wilson was born on December 9, 1946 in Waxahachie, Texas to James Austin Woodard and Beulah Alice Batson Woodard. Shirley’s light passed from this world to be with her parents and other loved ones on Sunday, March 1 after 79 years of sharing her light here with us. Shirley attended Red Oak High School and graduated in 1965. She was a cheerleader also voted FFA sweetheart. After High School, Shirley worked at Citizens Bank in Waxahachie, and later worked at LTV Aerospace & electronics in Grand Prairie. In 1979 she began her career with Southland Life Insurance Company in Dallas as the secretary to the VP of Agency. She also worked in the marketing department where she earned many awards and certifications to advance in a career that took her from Texas to Georgia to Colorado to retire from Southland in 2002. Shirley enjoyed gardening, traveling and living life to the fullest enjoying her family and friends. Shirley was a member of the Ovilla Baptist Church where for many years she played on the women’s softball team and was their best 1st base player ever. Wherever she went she made lifelong friends from school, church, work life and through retirement and she lived a wonderful giving life. Shirley married Harry Brown in 1965 and was blessed with one son, Brett Brown and one daughter, Kelly Golden. Shirley married JC Wilson on January 11, 1985 and spent 41 wonderful years together. 

Shirley is preceded in death by her father, James Austin Woodard; mother, Beulah Woodard and sister, Mary Ida Williams. Shirley is survived by her husband, JC Wilson; sisters, Ruth Puskar, Linda Furtick and husband Buel Ray, son Brett Brown, daughter Kelly Golden and husband Brian, step-daughter Stacey Tompkins and husband Drew,niece/daughter Lori Curry, all of her beloved 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Absolute Home Care Services caregivers; Tia and Stephanie as well as the Homage Hospice nurses Ann, Helen, and Theresa that were so kind, caring and helpful during Shirley’s final battle with dementia. The family would request that in your future charitable giving to please consider a gift to the American Alzheimer's Association.

 

Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 7, at Green Funeral Home - Red Oak, Texas.

Burial to follow at Red Oak Cemetery.
