Obituary

Robert Edwin and Barbara Kaye (Smith) Wise, ages 85 and 82 of Palmer, Texas passed away September 13 and 14, 2021. Robert was born April 26, 1936 in Dallas Texas and Barbara was born June 22, 1939 in McAlester, Oklahoma. They met at a church event in 1957 at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Oak Cliff. It was love at first sight and they were married after a short engagement on October 19, 1957, together they spent 63 beautiful years together, they lived in Oak Cliff, Texas until 1996, when they moved to Rockett, Texas. They loved traveling all over the continental United States in their motorcoach, visiting numerous State and National Parks: camping and boating, fishing and enjoying the sites and beauty of nature. On one particular bucket-list trip to the Redwood forest, Robert was in awe of the trees, knowing they were growing long before Jesus came to this world. After missing him for quite a while, the Rangers were dispatched to find him and brought him safely back to Barbara. Together they enjoyed riding their horses and working their cattle. They spent countless hours in their boat on various lakes, especially Richland-Chambers Reservoir near Corsicana. Robert served our country in the US Navy for six years and then as part of the Dallas County Deputy Sheriff’s posse, as well as a 32nd Degree Mason of the Oak Cliff Lodge. Likewise, Barbara was a member of the Oak Cliff Eastern Star Chapter for over 65 years. They will be missed by their family and all who knew them.

They are preceded in death by Robert's parents: Selma Edwin Wise and Frances Wise; Barbara's parents: Homer L. Gorman and Ora Belle Murray; Robert’s sister Margaret Coppinger-Jones; their nephew James Allen “Hammer” Simpson and great-grandson Jace Nunnaly.

They are survived by their daughter Dana K. and husband Mark Glaze of Palmer; loved and adored grandsons: Jeffrey D. and wife Johnna Roberts, Robert Forest Hughes, Brian, Rusty, and Sean and spouses; great-grandsons Colter and Ely Roberts and 10 other great-grand children; Barbara’s sister Linda Gorman-Burnett, her son and two daughters; Robert’s niece Debbie and husband Bob Walls and their son Patrick; niece Sheri Simpson and her children: Brandon and Casie; nephew Chris and wife Kathy Coppinger and their son Cody; as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.

A Memorial and Committal with Honors is planned for a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made in their honor to Dana Glaze for the Jace Nunnaly Memorial Scholarship.
