Robert "Bobby" Charles Flatt, age 80 of Red Oak, Texas passed away July 8, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born January 7, 1943 to Ellis Harley and Tressie Nina (Payne) Flatt in Seagraves, Texas. The family later moved to the Hill Country of Texas, then later as a young man to Abilene in West Texas. Bobby met and married Helen R. Smith on May 6, 1967 in Abilene, Texas; they made their way to Dallas, settling in Wilmer, Texas where he began his career in ironworks, participating in the building of numerous high rise buildings in Dallas, Chicago and in Saudi Arabia. Bobby was an iron worker 25 years until he became a welder, working for himself at BF Portable Welding until his retirement in 2020. Bobby loved and adored his family and protective of his daughters. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and deep sea fishing with them, and also had a passion for working on vintage automobiles. The family will cherish their memories of their trips to California, the Grand Canyon, they also visited England, Scotland and a beautiful trip to Hawaii. He adored his grandchildren, often giving them suckers and taking them fishing in the pond in the backyard. He was always very supportive of his family’s accomplishments and always encouraged a higher education. He will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents Ellis H. and Tressie N. Flatt; brother Cecil H. Flatt and brother Edgar B. Flatt.
He is survived by dedicated wife of 56 years Helen Flatt; daughters: Becki (Flatt) and husband Jeff Adams of Italy, Texas and Tanya (Flatt) and husband Mark Cates of Red Oak, Texas; grandchildren: Tristan Flatt, Hunter King, Hannah King, Tori Flatt and Lluvia Flatt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Pallbearers: Tristan Flatt, Hunter King, Billy Seans, Dylan Jewell, Bobby Vance and Hershall Vance.
Visitation will be 6:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 AM Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas. Bro. Paul Gilbreath Officiating.
Interment will immediately follow at the Bell’s Chapel Cemetery Rockett, Texas.
