Robbie Grounds Obituary

Robbie Dean (Shanks) Grounds, age 78, of Waxahachie, Texas passed away on July 7, 2026. She and her twin brother were born on March 10, 1948 in Franklin, Kentucky to Clifton Owen and Fairy Mae (McDowell) Shanks. She married the love of her life J. D. Grounds on July 9, 1992 in Caddo Parish, Louisiana. Robbie lived life with a spirited heart and a generous soul. Strong-willed and determined, she faced life with confidence while always making time to help those around her. Outgoing by nature, she never met a stranger and had a way of making people feel welcome wherever she went. She had a passion for country music and loved to dance. For many years, she was a familiar face at the Crystal Chandelier, where she enjoyed countless evenings surrounded by friends, music, and dancing. She also found great joy working in her yard and tending to her garden, taking pride in making everything around her beautiful. She and J. D. didn’t do a great deal of traveling but enjoyed trips to Las Vegas, Galveston, and to the WinStar Casino. Robbie had a love for collecting unique treasures, especially carousels and clocks of every kind; from a stately grandfather clock to whimsical miniature clocks in countless shapes and designs. She and J. D. also enjoyed spending time together exploring antique shops and auctions, searching for antiques and collectibles. An avid lover of Pomeranians, she always had a special place in her heart for her beloved canine companions. Robbie will be remembered for her kind heart, her willingness to lend a helping hand, and the joy she brought into the lives of those who knew and loved her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Clifton Shanks and Fairy Smith; infant sister Glenna, sister Wanda; and brother Ronnie.

She is survived by her loving husband J. D. Grounds; daughters: Glenna Ring and Lisa Malone; twin brother Bobbie Gene and wife Sammie; sister Betty; brother Jerry; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
