Richard Cundieff Obituary

Richard “Rick” Colby Cundieff, age 71 of Red Oak, Texas passed away on November 19, 2025. He was born September 19, 1954 in Mexia, Texas to William Esmond and Margaret Louise (Beene) Cundieff. Rick grew up in Mexia and graduated with the Class of 1972. He went on to attend Howard Payne University, graduating in 1977. In 1978, through mutual friends at First Baptist Church of Burleson, Richard met the love of his life Jacqualin “Jackie” Clapp. They were married on May 24, 1980 and together they built a life grounded in faith, service, and devotion to their family. Into their union were born two wonderful children Aaron and Krista. Following his calling into ministry, Rick attended Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, earning a Master’s degree in 1984. He began his pastoral journey in Oakwood, Texas followed by ministry in Donie, Texas, later in Jewett, Texas and Llano, Texas where he faithfully served for 27 years. After retiring from full-time pastoral work, his heart for ministry never ceased. Rick continued to serve part-time in Prairie Hill, Texas before he and Jackie made their home in Red Oak, Texas. They joined First Red Oak, where he served on the Pastoral Care Team beginning in 2020. Rick never truly retired, his ministry simply continued in new ways. He was loving, caring, and genuine. He encouraged everyone he met and never hesitated to give a big hug. He was a natural-born leader and a true people person who found joy in lifting others up. He enjoyed woodworking, crafting, and in his younger years loved fishing and water skiing. Family adventures were treasured memories, especially their yearly snow skiing trips. Rick also had a servant’s heart for mission work. He and Jackie visited missions in Peru and made several trips to Mexico and New Mexico. He was an active member of Texas Baptist Men, where he helped support families during the Bastrop fires. Of all his accomplishments, Rick was most proud of being a devoted husband and a wonderful father. Family was always his greatest priority, and he consistently encouraged those who worked with him to cherish their own families the same way. He will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.

He is preceded in death by His parents Esmond and Louise Cundieff; brother William Rodney Cundieff, brother Ronald “Ron” Cundieff; brother-in-law Jerry Cotton and sister-in-law Mary Ann Cundieff.

He is survived by his loving wife Jackie Cundieff; son Aaron Cundieff and wife Ashlee Lensmyer; daughter Krista and husband Kenly Klaproth; granddaughter Isabella; sister Judy and husband Nick Nichols; sister Janet Cotton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
