Michael Lamey Obituary

Michael Edwin Lamey, age 70, passed away next to his wife Catherine of 45 years on July 18, 2026, in Midlothian Texas. He was born on July 14, 1956 in Mobile, Alabama to James Francis and Ann Knight (Creighton) Lamey. Michael excelled in football during high school and also kept his parents on their toes with his endless shenanigans, but those experiences became some of the many stories he would later enjoy sharing. He had a gift for storytelling and could keep people entertained with tales of life’s adventures, mishaps, and the obstacles he encountered and how he overcame them along the way. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and never met a stranger, he could have a long chat with about almost anything. Michael especially enjoyed visiting and sharing stories with both his mother and mother-in-law, Nana, and was always ready for some friendly gossip. Michael spent more than 55 years working in warehouse management. He was a hardworking, honorable man who took pride in doing a job well and was a key part in the reinvention of his company, saving it from bankruptcy. He was a crack shot with any sort of gun, a skill he got from his father. He had a mechanical mind and enjoyed building, repairing, and fixing just about anything and he passed those skills on to his sons, who also enjoy working with their hands, "it's like high stakes Legos", as one of them says. He also passed on his strong work ethic of not stopping until the job is done, doing the job well, planning ahead, his virtue of being a man of your word and making sure a first handshake was firm. Although he could be serious at times, those closest to him knew he was a protector at heart and everything he did was done for the betterment of his family. His life changed for the better when he met Catherine L. Lamey, the love of his life.  There was nowhere on earth he would rather be than next to his wife and their marriage provided their sons with a strong example of how a true marriage partnership should look. They were married on June 26, 1981 and together raised two sons, James and Jonathan. One of his favorite places in the world was in St. Augustine, where he liked to vacation with his wife. Michael was proud of his four grandchildren, and in July 2025, he and Catherine moved from Alabama to Texas so they could spend more time with them. Michael will be remembered for his stories, his sense of humor, his ability to fix almost anything, his hardworking nature, and most of all, his devotion to his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Jim and Ann Lamey.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years Catherine L. Lamey; son James Patrick and wife Katerin Valverde, their daughter Jimena; son Jonathan Edwin and wife Magen Lamey and their three children: Levi, Alexander and Nico; sister Toni Ann Cohn and her son Simon and brother Bradley James Lamey; and his aunts Vernon and Faye. His memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
