Melvin Kannady Obituary

Melvin Ray Kannady, age 76, of Ferris, Texas passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was born June 24, 1944 in Garrett, Texas to the late Robert Joseph and Jinniev (Parks) Kannady. Melvin is remembered in his early years as loving fast cars and street racing. He met and later married the love of his life Carol Jean Daniels and they have shared 56 wonderful years together. He was a jack of all trades, he was twice retired from the Texas Department of Transportation for over 30 years. He started with the Texas department as a welder, then road runner on up to bridge inspector.  He determined the structural soundness of bridges and was the only person who could shut down an entire highway with one phone call. Over the years he pointed out to his family the bridges he worked on, napped under and found things to add to his junk collection. He was an extremely smart analytical thinker who could figure math in his head up to the thousandths. Throughout his life he saved many lives: a coworker and another time several bridge crew members; even injuring himself to do so. He was generous with his time and resources, and a good neighbor, many times taking care of the needs of others before his own. A loyal family man, he loved spending time with his grandchildren and later great-grandchildren. He loved visiting the Choctaw casino in Oklahoma, playing his lucky machines, always his favorite football themed game, winning several large jackpots over the years.

He is preceded in death by parents; brothers: Robert Wendell Kannady, Randall Lee Kannady and David Michael Kannady

He is survived by his dedicated wife Carol Kannady of Ferris; sons: Billy Ray and wife Sherry Kannady of Bristol and Joey and wife Candi Kannady of Ferris; five grandchildren: Alecia, Ashley, Billy Ray, Jr., Trevor and Kolby; nine great-grandchildren; brother Richard Wayne Kannady of Seagoville; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
