Obituary

Mary Ida Williams (Woodard), age 81, of Red Oak, Texas passed away on June 27, 2023, surrounded by her family. Born on August 7, 1941, in Waxahachie, Texas, she was the oldest of four sisters, born to Beulah (Batson) and James Woodard. Mary Ida graduated from Waxahachie high school class of 1959. Afterwards she met and married R.C. Dickey and the two began raising their family. Mary Ida worked various jobs before ultimately landing the job that would carry her 40+ years with the Red Oak ISD. Mary Ida was known for her wit and joking nature. Everyone loved her. She was always willing to help when someone needed her. Which explained why she retired twice from the same place. She just loved to be needed. She was incredibly valued within the Red Oak ISD family where she worked until covid hit. Her kids were her life, but her grands were her world. She could often be heard saying, if she knew grandkids were this great, she would have had them first. She didn’t like to travel, and got very car sick, which her family kindly jokes about when they did take short trips.  Mary loved all things jewelry. If she wasn’t making it, she would be on QVC buying it. She crocheted until she got tennis elbow, even having an afghan win honorable mention at the State Fair. When she could no longer crochet, she made fleece tie blankets. Mary Ida loved Thanksgiving. Cooking for the holidays and having her family with her was the highlight of the year for her. She will be missed and incredibly loved by all that knew her.

Mary Ida is preceded in death by her husbands: R.C. Dickey 1975 and Jack Williams 1991, stepdaughter Gena Williams and a Son James Dickey.

She is survived by her daughters: Lisa and spouse Gary Beaty of Waxahachie, Texas, Lori and spouse Chim Curry of Waxahachie, Texas, Amy Killgo of Red Oak, Texas, step-son Mark and spouse Tammy Williams of Waxahachie, Texas, and step-daughter Nancy and spouse Brent Byers of Alvarado, Texas; Siblings: Ruth and spouse Al Puskar of Red Oak, Texas, Shirley and spouse J.C. Wilson of Seven Points, Texas, and Linda and spouse Buel Furtick of Burleson, Texas; grandchildren: Courtney, Cameron, Cody, Caitlin, Aaron, Hannah, and Austin; great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Maddox, Tinsley, and Collins as well as numerous other extended family members and friends.
