Mary Frances (Pokladnik) Kubin, age 102, passed away November 13, 2023. She was born January 6, 1921 in Dallas, Texas to Emil Matt and Marie Lillian (Kopecky) Pokladnik; she was the eldest daughter of seven siblings and attended Forest Avenue High School in Dallas. She later met the love of her life, John William Kubin, at a Polka dance in a Czech music hall. As she walked his way, he told a friend, "That is the girl I will marry." They did, and this union was blessed with three wonderful children. They bought a home in Dallas. As a young mother, Mary worked at a bread company and later for Gulf Insurance as an Administrative Assistant. They also tended cattle on their ranch in Blue Ridge for many years. She liked going to Las Vegas as well as playing the slots at the casinos in Oklahoma and enjoyed the Dallas Symphony as well as the Shen Yun Performing Arts program. She also enjoyed the outdoors and going fishing. Her cooking will be missed, from her Czech pastries to her paprika chicken and other favorite dishes. She had a subtle and dry sense of humor and was loved and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, six siblings and husband John William Kubin.
She is survived by her daughter Margaret Cole of Red Oak, daughter Gwendolyn Johnson of Garland, and son John Wayne of Dallas, four grandchildren: Kathy Elliott, Justin Johnson, Heather Cole, and Richard Cole; 10 great-grandchildren: Nathan, Caleb, Carly, Joshua, Abigail, Hannah, Daniel, Esther, Ruth, and Joseph, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
