Maerean Jones Obituary

Maerean “Mary” McPeak Jones, age 83, passed away on May 6, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born on August 16, 1939, in Gurdon, Arkansas to the late Genola and Mary (Carter) McPeak. Mary spent her childhood in Arkansas before moving to the Dallas area in the 1950’s to be close to family and find work. She met and married her husband Floyd Jones, Sr. in 1961 and the two started their family.

From a son, about his mother: Mother followed dad from one road construction town to the next, as was the custom of those days. On many days, she'd bundle up the kids (Carolyn and me) and a picnic basket and set out for the construction site, with lunch for dad. Little sis played in her playpen as I ran, immediately toward the top of the nearest dirt pile. -From the very beginning, family and family unity was her number one priority. It would remain that way for the next sixty years.

As we grew, so did her compassion and love. At the age of 30, she was diagnosed with cervical cancer, stage 3. At that time, her doctors pleaded with her to abort her three-month pregnancy, saying that her prognosis (if she waited) was grim. She steadfastly refused. Her belief in "The Almighty" wouldn't allow her to sacrifice the life of an unborn child for her own. She delivered Richard into this world on November 5, 1970.

The Lord had spared her, but her health would never fully recover. Yet, she never complained. I watched her struggle through the years and committed to being there for her...always.

My mom became "mother" to countless other people, through the years.

Now, mother could be a little vane, but not like you might think. -Mother was vane about her children. She was as proud as she could be, of us and her grandchildren. -But she never lost sight of the fact that all she had and had to be proud of, was possible only because of God's grace. Mother continued to teach me lessons about humanity and grace until the very end. I will forever hold her in the highest esteem.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Sr., and daughter, Carolyn Smith.

Mom is survived by her three sons: Clifford Carter of Kansas City, MO., Floyd Jones (Nanette Jones) of Garland, TX., and Richard Jones of Leonard, TX., 14 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.
