Linda Ruth Luna Nethery, 68, formerly of Nacogdoches, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at her home in Glenn Heights, Texas after a short, but valiant, struggle with a rare, aggressive cancer. Linda was a 10th generation direct descendant of Antonio Gil Y’Barbo and was born in Nacogdoches, Texas on March 24, 1954, the daughter of Joseph Lewis Luna and Kathryne Lazarine Luna.
A Rosary will be held at 1:30pm on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, 2:00pm Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 2508 Appleby Sand Rd, with Monsignor James E. Young, Celebrant followed by a reception in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Parish Hall. Interment will be at the Lazarine Cemetery in Nacogdoches.
Linda attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and Nacogdoches High School. She attended Stephen F. Austin University and became a Certified Public Accountant. She worked for a big six accounting firm before deciding to take a position with the City of Dallas to spend more time with her beloved daughter, Melissa. Linda later worked as an auditor for DFW Airport and then as an auditor for the office of the United States Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) where she audited Information Technology systems. Linda retired from TIGTA in February. Linda was truly appreciative of every small blessing in life and she acknowledged even the smallest acts of kindnesses of others in a way that made people feel appreciated and loved. She was a very giving person who always wanted to make sure those around her had what they needed. She made a lasting impression on all those who knew her and will be loved and missed by many.
She is survived by her daughter, Melissa Magallanes and her son-in-law Manuel Magallanes of Fair Oaks, California; three stepsons: J.P. Nethery of Kingwood, Texas, Michael Nethery of Houston, Texas, and Michael Gallagher of Longview, Texas; one stepdaughter, Michelle Gallagher of South Carolina; four sisters: Mary Anne Woodrom of Hudson, Texas; Barbara Keenan of Fremont, California; Sandy McCune of Dripping Springs, Texas and Beverly Luna of Austin, Texas; two brothers: Wayne Luna of Kingwood, Texas and Tim Luna of Austin, Texas. She is also survived by her aunt, Frankie Rudd of Lufkin, Texas, by her Goddaughter, Joni Cooper Hine of Houston, Texas and by a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family and close friends as well as her beloved dogs Spot, Quick, Sopie, and Sammi.
Linda was preceded in death by the love of her life - her husband William Nethery, by her brother Michael Adrian Luna; by her parents Joe and Kathryne Luna, and by her beloved nephew, Patrick Luna.
Linda’s friends were instrumental in helping Linda through her final days. Many visited and those who were able helped her daughter care for her. Linda’s family extends special thanks to Linda’s friend of many, many years, Sandy Cooper Garrison, who left her own family night after night to drive to the Dallas area to help care for Linda. Sandy was such a blessing to Linda and her family.
The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Linda’s name to one of her favorite charities: Apollo Support and Rescue for Abandoned Dogs (in Justin, Texas) and Fostering Hope Animal Rescue (in Midlothian, Texas).
