Lavada Musick Obituary

Lavada Aliene (Leonard) Musick, of Red Oak, Texas passed away May 25, 2025, at the age of 86. She was born on September 25, 1938 in Antlers, Oklahoma to Elmer and Julia (Bates) Leonard. After completing her education, Lavada began her working life in retail, starting in a dime store and quickly rising by her own ambition and creativity. With a keen eye for beauty and a sharp mind for business, she promoted herself into roles where she designed storefront window displays—turning heads and increasing store sales with her flair for visual storytelling. Her greatest love story began after James R. Musick returned from serving in the United States Army. She married James on December 22, 1958 after they participated in a church Christmas play about a soldier returning home from war. Together they raised two sons. Lavada devoted herself to her family as a homemaker, often taking small jobs to earn extra money for the special things that made a house a home—furniture for the living room, a new bed, or other little luxuries. In the 1970s, Lavada followed her calling and opened Musick Bible Bookstore. There, she not only ran a business but a ministry, sharing her love of the Lord with customers, pastors, youth leaders, and music ministers alike. She continued this ministry of encouragement and witness while working at The Maxey Store as well. Lavada was known for her unshakable faith, often hosting home worship services, always seeking ways to share her Christian testimony. Even in her quiet moments, she found strength and joy in her daily devotionals, time in prayer, and study of the Bible. Though reserved and serious, her life was a living example of God’s love. Her heart and spirit were always available to anyone, anytime who needed prayer. And when she prayed, you knew she had the ear of the Lord! A devoted grandmother, Lavada had a unique way of making birthdays special, often with her delicious icebox cake. She also left behind fond memories of her chocolate pies and salmon patties. She had a love for birds and cats, cherished her potted plants, and spent many hours designing and redesigning brick stone paths in her backyard, surrounded by blooming irises. Lavada’s legacy is one of faith, family, and strength. She will be missed by all who knew her and cherished forever by those who called her their own. She lived a blessed life, and now is now rejoicing in the presence of the Lord.

She is preceded in death by her husband James R. Musick; parents: Elmer and Julia Leonard; son Bobby Ray Musick; four sisters: Edith, Helen, Gladys and Sue.

She is survived by son David and wife Barbara Musick; five grandchildren: Kenneth and wife Mary Musick, Michael and wife Joanna Musick, Crystal and husband Andy Castellanos, Justin Musick and Jayden Musick; four great-grandchildren: Lucas, Madeline, Atlas and Annette; sisters: Elmerine Stone and Loretta Ramey; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and dear friends.
