Kevin Smith Obituary

Kevin Dwayne Smith, 59, of Red Oak, Texas, passed away in the early morning hours on August 11, 2025. Kevin was born to the late Dale and Wanda Smith on November 11, 1965, in Dallas, Texas, and lived his entire life in his hometown of Red Oak. He was welcomed into heaven by his parents, Dale and Wanda Smith; sister, Karen Hopkins; great-nephew Aidan Hopkins; grandparents; many aunts, uncles, cousins; and loved ones who preceded him in death.

Kevin is survived by his sister, Brenda Anderson, and husband, Leif; brother, Daubrey Smith; nieces, Tammy Bentley and husband, Chris, and Christy Mead and husband, Patrick; nephews, Mark Hopkins and wife, Marianne, Bryan Bannister, Anthony (Andy) Smith and wife, Carrie, and Derek Anderson and Kristy Guthrie. As the “fun uncle,” he will also be greatly missed by his great-nieces and nephews: Kaylee Bentley and Jason Waldeck, Abigail Brixie and husband, Phillip, Maribeth Mead and fiancé, Caleb Johnson, Caroline Mead, Ava Bannister, Evan Bannister, Riley Hopkins, Olivia Hopkins, Jason Bentley, and Brandon Bentley.

Kevin graduated from Red Oak High School, then attended Southwestern Assemblies of God University. With a heart to serve others, he continued his education to become a Certified Massage Therapist and spent the last 25-plus years in service to his many loyal clients at Cooper Spa in Dallas. Kevin considered Cooper Spa and the entire Cooper Clinic organization to be his second family. He had the greatest respect for Dr. Kenneth Cooper, his family, and the entire team.

Kevin had many hobbies in his life. He was proficient in American sign-language. He also became certified in scuba, earned belts in karate, and was self-taught in the Jewish faith and customs, even learning to speak some Hebrew during his studies.

It is well known that Kevin had a great love and admiration for Elvis Presley. He studied Elvis’s life, loved his music and movies, and often covered his songs — sounding remarkably like him when he sang. He loved going to the gun range and enjoyed occasional target practice during his leisure time. He loved exploring his ancestry and the history of his family. He wrote beautiful poetry but rarely shared it with others. Kevin always kept a bit of kid in him, with a teasing sense of humor. He loved collecting Elvis memorabilia, anything related to Indiana Jones, and enjoyed watching both old and new movies in his spare time (especially action films and the occasional romantic comedy).

As a devout Christian, Kevin led others by example, living kindly and unselfishly as a strong Christian man. He studied the Bible extensively and loved quoting scripture and listening to Christian and gospel music. He was intentional and prayerful in all he did, making certain his life reflected his Christian faith and that his actions brought glory to God.

Kevin had a tender, loving heart, loved his family and friends, and enjoyed his career. We are deeply saddened by his passing from our presence here on earth. He will forever be remembered and missed by his family and friends until we meet again.  We now rejoice for his new eternal life with Jesus, his family, and friends who left before him, and we will honor him by celebrating his beautiful life in the coming days.

His favorite verse was

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge him,
    and he will direct your paths.”

Proverbs 3:5-6

In this difficult time, we will place our trust in the Lord, as Kevin would have wanted.
