Judy Kay (Beavers) Thomas, age 79 of Ferris, Texas passed away June 17, 2025. Born on January 6, 1946, to Wayland and Evelyn Grace (Worth) Beavers, Judy was devoted to her family, her church, and community. After high school, she pursued beauty school and was a beautician, later she worked at Sears, and as a proofreader for the former Mesquite Daily News. She was a gifted artist, retouching photos and painted on layered glass to create stunning 3-D pictures. Her creativity and craftsmanship extended into every aspect of her life; there wasn’t much Judy couldn’t do once she set her mind to it. A devoted homemaker, Judy poured love into her home as a wife to her loving husband Don, mother, and grandmother. She sewed clothes for her children and even created choir outfits for her daughter and her friends. She loved cooking and was especially known for her tamales, beef roast, Swedish meatballs, pecan pies, and Black Forest pie. She sang with joy and learned to play the accordion as a young girl. Judy was a longtime member of Midway Baptist Church, where she found purpose and joy in serving others. Whether it was helping with Vacation Bible School, cooking meals for families in need, or simply lending a caring hand, Her ministry was often carried out in the kitchen, feeding hearts and bellies alike. Around Ferris, Judy was well-known for her years of friendly service at the Superette and for being a familiar face at Javier’s where she and Don enjoyed many meals. She loved travel, with favorite memories made in Branson and a particularly adventurous ride through “The Dragon” in Arkansas. She was often her own toughest critic, but to those who knew her, she was extraordinary. She leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and kindness that will continue to live on in the lives she touched. “Her children arise and call her blessed…”Proverbs 31:28.
She is preceded in death by her parents Wayland and Evelyn Beavers; brother Randy Beavers; sister Gayle Boyd; and great-grandchild Maverick.
She is survived by her husband Walter D. “Don” Thomas; daughter Christina and husband Curtis Upchurch; son Jason Thomas; grandchildren: Trenton “TJ” and wife Rachel Thomas, Kendall Thomas, Brandy Ray, Perry Ray; great-grandchildren: Sadie, Emily, Katelynn, Lauren, Charlie, Kasen, Aurora, and Atlas.
