Joyce Marie McDowell was born on February 17, 1941 to Claude and Romer Evans. After a slow battle with Alzheimer’s disease she passed away on November 17, 2021. She was 80 years old.
Joyce was preceded by all three siblings, two brothers- Royce and Bill and one sister Nell. Joyce mainly grew up in Ferris, Texas and graduated from Ferris High School in 1960. She was married for forty-two years to William McDowell, who preceded her in 2002. They had two children. She is survived by her son Larry McDowell and his wife Patti. She is predeceased by her daughter Karen Andrews who lost her battle to cancer last year and survived by her son in law Doug Andrews. Joyce is leaving behind three grandchildren. Alisha (Waggoner), Monica(Peden), and Jarrett McDowell. Joyce is also leaving behind four great grandchildren. - Cameron, Jake, Kaylee, and Kori.
Joyce worked hard her whole life at various jobs but the majority of her work career was at ATCO. She worked at ATCO for over 30 years as the shipping clerk. Joyce knew the value of hard work and what it meant to make an honest living.
When it comes to what Joyce enjoyed in her life here are a few of her favorites. If anyone ever met Joyce they would know right off the bat what her favorite color was… of course it was RED! She loved to wear any item of clothing that had the color red! Joyce also enjoyed wearing jewelry and broaches. Shopping at Walmart, thrift stores and garage sales made her happy! It wasn’t really finding things in the store to buy but it was the joy she got with meeting and talking to new people. She really never met a stranger. Her favorite cartoon icon was of course Mickey Mouse! Her favorite treat to enjoy was ice cream but it particularly had to come from her favorite place Dairy Queen. She also had a big heart for animals. She truly enjoyed God's creatures and taking care of them. Joyce did enjoy these earthly pleasures but she also knew that this was not what life was all about. Her focus in life was showing love and caring for her family.
She was named Joyce and this name fitted who she was in her life. The first three letters of her name spell JOY! That is what she gave to others and what others felt when they were near her! Joyce was love and showed love effortlessly and continuously throughout her life WITHOUT hesitation. She loved her children unconditionally. Joyce was a wonderful example of what a mother should be. She was overjoyed about being a grandmother! She would buy them anything and take them anywhere they wanted to go. In short, she spoiled them! Even though Joyce would spoil her grandchildren they remember her greatest gift of overwhelming love and care she poured out to her family.
Joyce didn’t just show this kind of love and joy to her family. She would also share this with her friends, coworkers, or even strangers. Joyce embodied the fruits of the spirit while here on earth. Joyce showed love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control.
Joyce loved our Lord Jesus Christ and now can be with our Heavenly Father. I hope she has heard from our Lord “ Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your Master.” Matthew 25:21
