John Hernandez Escalante age 82 of Ferris, Texas passed away October 16, 2023. He was born in Mumford, Texas to the late John Escalante and Silas Hernandez on May 31, 1941. From an early age John loved music. He found his first trombone in a chicken coop and was told he could have it if he cleaned the coop. After graduating high school he went on to join the Navy and took his talents on the trombone with him, playing in the US Navy band. He served two terms in the Navy before joining the Army, continuing his musicianship in the United States Army band. Additionally, he served three tours in Vietnam and retired from the US Army in 1981. His family remembers a wonderful trip to Walt Disney World in Florida during its opening year in 1971. John later met the love of his life Connie Moore in 1989. They begin dating in 1994 and married July 6, 1998. He began working for the water department in the city of Ferris, Texas until his retirement. He enjoyed playing bass guitar often for a local band “Cruise Control”. He loved being in the outdoors, sitting in the sun, enjoying the bluebonnets in the spring with his favorite canine companion, 13-year-old Marty the pitbull. John also enjoyed riding Harley Davidson motorcycles with his best friend Breezy Hart well into his 70’s. He will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Escalante and Silas Hernandez.
He is survived by his loving wife Connie Escalante; children: Jose Escalante, Julian Escalante, John Escalante, Jr., Diane Escalante, Jamie Burnett and Gary Burnett Jr.; five grandchildren: Nikara, Naomi, Julius, Molly and Nicholas; as well as five great-grandchildren.
