Joel Rodriguez, age 73, of Dallas, Texas passed away March 24, 2021. He was born in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico on May 29, 1947 to the late J. Guadalupe Rodriguez and Carmen Cano. Joel came to the U.S. in his 20s to Hobbs, New Mexico working in the oil fields. Later he began his career in trucking, traveling all over the U.S. until his retirement. He told many stories of family, travel, and work. He was passionate about baseball and could always be found cheering for the Texas Rangers. In their youth, he coached his children in baseball and later began traveling with his son Vince, who now umpires the beloved game. He enjoyed cooking for his family, his ribeye steaks will be especially missed. Joel loved music, dancing, playing the guitar and singing with mariachi. In his spare time he very much enjoyed fishing, traveling, visiting family in Chicago, Wisconsin, Florida and Mississippi, watching western movies, James Bond and old war movies. He was very mechanically inclined, working on cars and teaching his kids as much as he could about fixing and maintaining them. Never a selfish individual, he was always kind, helping others as much as he could. He pushed, motivated and supported the decisions of his children and bragged on them constantly. His grandson Alex, will cherish memories of taking numerous trips on the train going here and there with his grandfather. Joel will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his children: Joel and wife Petra Rodriguez, II, of Orlando, Florida, Gabriel Rodriguez of Muskegon, Michigan, Edwardo and wife Katie Rodriguez of Muskegon, Michigan, Ernesto and wife Liliana of Hernando, Mississippi, Arnoldo and wife Jeanette Rodriguez of Dallas, Texas, Vince Rodriguez of Red Oak, Texas and Zenia Rodriguez of Desoto, Texas; siblings: Adam, Ruben, Guadalupe, Hilda, Racquel, Teresa, Lourdes, Humberto, Alfredo, Francisco and Socorro; five grandchildren with two more on the way, two great-grandchildren; several grand-dogs and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be 2:00 PM - 8:00 PM with Rosary at 6:00 PM Monday, March 29, 2021 at Green Funeral Home. Mask and Social Distancing is Encouraged.
Funeral Service is 1:00 PM Tuesday, March 30, 2021 at Green Funeral Home, Deacon Jose Muniz Officiating. Mask and Social Distancing is Encouraged.
