Jerry Lynn Nash was born July 10, 1943, to Henry Bayne Nash and Jessie Frances Burgin in Gilmer, TX. Family and friends also called him Muggs.
In 1958, Jerry was a freshman in high school. While working at a filling station he sustained third degree burns over 40% of his body needing skin grafts. He spent the next 1.5 years recuperating at Baylor Burn Center in Dallas. Jerry graduated from Wilmer Hutchins high school in 1962. After graduation he attended Stephen F. University until he was drafted in June 1965 into the Army. While answering the call to Uncle Sam he was stationed at Ft. Myers, VA. Jerry’s luck continued when he found out his one of his best friends was also stationed at Ft. Myers in the USMC. His best friend Vaughn was dating Marlene Smith. Marlene’s sister flew in for a visit, it was during this visit while attending a Halloween party that Vaughn introduced his best friend Jerry to Marlene’s sister, Maxine (it is important that to note they were all dressed as pickles). I am told Jerry knew immediately she was the one, he just had to convince her. Jerry was honorably discharged June 1967, they went on to marry Oct. 7, 1967 (and were married 49 years until her death in 2016). After he was discharged, he went on to use his GI Bill and attended University of Texas, East Texas, and Tarrant County Community College. He received his bachelor’s in business administration in 1975. Once he had his degree, he was able to move up from the warehouse in Xerox to sales. This is how everyone came to know him as the human selling machine. Jerry would go on to work 40 years at Xerox before retirement in May 2009.
Everyone who knew Jerry knew him to be a character that never met a stranger. Jerry and Maxine went on to have two children, Jerry Lynn Jr., and Stephanie Jane. His children were everything to him, always making sure they towed the line. Jerry and his siblings were remarkably close growing up and passed on this love of family and togetherness to their children enabling the cousins to carry in this tradition of gathering and spending time together. His children remember their dad riding unicycles and doing backflips well into his late thirties. He also continued his lifelong love of outdoors all through his life. He passes his love of nature and the outdoors onto his children.
He is proceeded in death by his wife, Maxine Nash, Son Jerry Nash Jr, Parents, Henry Bayne and Jessie Frances and older brother, Selwyn Nash, and nephew Bayne Nash.
Survived by daughter Stephanie and son in law Mike McCraw, Grandsons Dylan and wife Julia, Austen, Connor Nash, daughter in law Shanna Nash Crocker (Chris). Siblings: Robert, Tommy Nash, and sister Lilian Rebecca Tull and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
