James Paul Netherland, age 77, of Red Oak, Texas passed away on December 20, 2024. He was born on December 14, 1947 in Monroe, Louisiana to Henry B. Netherland and Effer Newman. James proudly served his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army after completing his education. During his three years of active duty, he trained at Fort Eustis, Virginia and served with the 714th Railway Operating Battalion in Vietnam, where he worked on airbase infrastructure. His military journey also took him to Fort Polk, Louisiana, and included two years with the National Guard. On December 26, 1967, James married his childhood sweetheart, Linda Kolb, beginning a lifelong partnership and raising a family together. His career spanned carpentry, metalwork and ultimately ministry following his seminary studies in Louisiana. As a minister, James devoted himself to serving others in the Church of Christ until his retirement. Known for his lighthearted humor, James never hesitated to add his “two cents” to any conversation. Always smiling, he was quick to defend those he loved, combining a playful spirit with a deep sense of loyalty and generosity. James found joy in woodworking, tinkering and fixing things around the house. He loved classic Westerns like Gunsmoke and Bonanza, and spent countless hours studying his books and notes in his library. A simple pleasure was indulging in cookies and saltine crackers. James’s life was a testament to dedication—dedication to his family, his faith, and his country. His legacy of laughter, love, and service will be cherished by all who knew him.
