James Masten, Sr. Obituary

James Kenneth Masten, Sr., age 78, of Waxahachie, Texas passed away April 11, 2025. Born June 14, 1946 in Meridian, Texas, James was the son of Guy Julius Masten and Annie Mae Noel. He completed his education and worked various jobs; at age 17 he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving his country until the age of 21. During his military service he was stationed in South Carolina. After his service, he returned to Texas and began his family. James enjoyed spending his mornings at local cafés, sipping coffee and swapping stories with the old-timers about “the good old days.” A true Dallas Cowboys fan through and through, he cheered them on loyally—win or lose. He had a dry wit that could catch you off guard and make you laugh when you least expected it. In his younger years, he enjoyed metal detecting, fishing, and bowling. He had a lifelong love for popcorn, sweets, Coca-Cola, and a good burger. His pastimes included watching game shows like Wheel of Fortune, catching up on TMZ, and tuning in to Channel 4 News, and he never missed a weather forecast. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Guy and Annie Masten; and all of his siblings.

He has survived by his children: James Kenneth Masten, Jr; Rachel Pfeifer, Michael Robert Masten; four grandchildren: Zane, Zevin, Zayden and Autumn; two nephews and three nieces.
