James Hollenback, Jr. Obituary

James Russell Hollenback, Jr., age 77 of Ferris, Texas passed away January 29, 2026. He was born on June 28, 1948 at the Naval Base in Jacksonville, Florida to James Russell, Sr. and Francis (Hare) Hollenback. Jim grew up in a military family and eventually they settled in Lancaster, Texas. From an early age, Jim developed a deep love for the outdoors, especially horses. This passion stayed with him throughout his life and became one of the defining joys of who he was. Jim worked for Dresser Industries for many years and was known for being outgoing, talkative, and friendly. He never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. He loved working on cars with his son Russell; Jim especially loved hot rods, and spent time in the Artesia, California area soaking up car culture during his younger years. Western movies, rodeos, amateur roping, fishing, and skeet shooting were among his favorite pastimes, but horses were always his greatest love. He trained horses, broke them, led trail rides, and wasn’t afraid to get back in the saddle even after being bucked off a time or two, or getting a broken leg. True to his spirit, he always got back on the horse. He met the love of his life Patricia Ann Nandin at a car wash, telling her he liked her Mustang, the beginning of a lifelong love story. They were married on January 22, 1971, and recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. Their relationship was filled with laughter, companionship, and devotion. His grandchildren were a great joy, and he loved them dearly, and was proud to become a great-grandfather. Jim loved having breakfast with his friends at Cancun’s, where good food, good conversation, and good company made for the perfect morning. Jim will be remembered for his love of horses, cars, family, and friendship; for his resilience, his warmth, and his unmistakable personality.

He is preceded in death by his parents James and Francis Hollenback.

He survived by his wife Patricia Hollenback; son James Russell, III and wife Amanda Hollenback; sister Mary and husband Terry Hargett; brother Michael Hollenback; granddaughter Addison and husband Tripp Harris; grandsons: James Mason Hollenback and Cason Russell Hollenback; great-granddaughter Allie Ann Harris. As well as other extended family members and friends.
