Jack Davis Abernathy of Midlothian passed away suddenly on July 10, 2025. He was born in Linden, TX on May 20, 1939 but moved to the DFW area shortly after completing his military service in the late 50s. He called Midlothian home for over 50 years where he married and raised a family. He retired from Bell Helicopter in 2000 after many years of service and loyal membership in the UAW union.
In addition to his service in the United States Army where he served in Korea, he was also a dedicated family man who was very active in charitable organizations in the 80s and 90s.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Jinks and Bessie Lou Abernathy of Arlington; brothers: James, Ralph and Bobby Abernathy as well as brother-in-law Sam Sellers.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 30 years, Maryanne Swejkowski Abernathy of Midlothian; their blended family which includes children: Frank Pearson of Shelby Township, MI, Debbie Clark of Midlothian, Ethan (Cristy) Abernathy of Midothian and Jackie Abernathy (Colt) Stacer of Ft. Worth; grandchildren: Joey (Brandi) Clark of Midlothian, Miranda (Tim) Clayton of Midlothian, Brandon Pearson of Shelby Township, MI, Stan Abernathy of Wyoming, Joseph (Amy) Kliment of McKinney and Elisabeth Hill of Newport News, VA; and great-grandchildren Marlee Clayton of Midlothian, Isaac Kliment of McKinney and Liam Clayton of Midlothian. He is also survived by his sister, Peggy Sellers of Arlington as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jack was known to many as neighbor, friend, colleague and all-around good man but to his family he was known as husband, father, brother and papa. He will be greatly missed by many.
A celebration of life will be held at The Oak Room in the Mansfield Activity Center on August 2nd from 1-4pm, all are welcome. The Mansfield Activity Center is located at 106 South Wisteria, Mansfield, TX 76063
