Guadalupe "Lupe" Ortega

Guadalupe “Lupe” Ortega, age 74 of Dallas, Texas passed away suddenly on Sunday, February 5, 2023. Born in Edcouch, Texas, county of Hidalgo on November 9, 1948 to Lorenzo and Maximina Ortega, he was one of eight children. He lived and attended school in Mexico until the age of 17 when he came to Dallas, Texas and joined the Army, but not before marrying the love of his life, Zenaida (Chene) in 1969. The two met in the Zarape Ballroom and continued danced until right before he passed away. Lupe served the Army during Vietnam War. His service to his country was something Lupe was extremely proud of. He LOVED to tell anyone he could about his stories. After serving his time in the military, Lupe got into construction work where he laid bricks as a brick mason. Lupe was an avid griller and always loved to cook for his family and especially when his wife hosted bingo. He wasn’t allowed to play, but they loved his cooking. Lupe was a man of his word, if he said he would do something or he would be somewhere, he didn’t disappoint. In his youth he played recreational sports baseball, hunting, dancing and was a billiards trophy holder.  As a father, his children never had to wonder if dad would be there, he always was. He loved playing with his children. They all affectionately remember Friday’s for the Jack in the Box tacos he would bring home. In the 90’s he opened, operated and owned his own bar. He loved visiting family in Ferris and traveled to Monterey, Mexico to visit his family there. As a grand-father he loved spending his time with his grand-children and great- grandchildren.

Lupe is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Mario Ortega, Lorenzo Ortega, Salvador Ortega; sister: Alicia Ortega and one infant son.

He is survived by his loving wife Zenaida; children: Lilia and spouse Michael Garza of Red Oak, Texas,  Leticia Ortega and spouse Mario Moreno of Dallas, Texas,  Lorena and spouse Rene Duran of Ferris, Texas, Lorenzo Ortega of Dallas, Texas and Guadalupe Ortega Jr. of Dallas, Texas; 15 grandchildren: ten great-grandchildren; siblings: Gilbert Ortega of Pleasant Grove, Texas, Margarita Ortega of Monterey, Mexico, and Olivia Cantu of Dallas, Texas.

Guadalupe Ortega 74 años de edad de Dallas, Texas falleció repentinamente el domingo 5 de febrero de 2023. Nacido en Edcouch, Texas, condado de Hidalgo el 9 de noviembre de 1948 de Lorenzo y Maximina Ortega, fue uno de ocho hijos. Vivió y asistió a la escuela en México hasta los 17 años cuando llegó a Dallas, Texas y se unió al ejército, no sin antes casarse con el amor de su vida, Zenaida (Chene) en 1969. Los dos se conocieron en el Zarape Ballroom y siguieron bailando hasta justo antes de morir. Lupe sirvió al ejército durante la guerra de Vietnam. Su servicio a su país era algo de lo que Lupe estaba extremadamente orgulloso. Le encantaba contarle a cualquiera que pudiera sobre sus historias. Después de cumplir su condena en el ejército, Lupe se dedicó a la construcción, donde colocó ladrillos como albañil. Lupe fue un asador ávido y siempre le encantó cocinar para su familia y especialmente cuando su esposa jugaba bingo en casa. No se le permitía jugar, pero les encantaba su cocina. Lupe era un hombre de palabra, si decía que haría algo o que estaría en algún lado, no decepcionaba. En su juventud practicó deportes recreativos béisbol, cacería, baile y fue poseedor de un trofeo de billar. Como padre, sus hijos nunca tuvieron que preguntarse si papá estaría allí, siempre estuvo. Le encantaba jugar con sus hijos. Todos recuerdan con cariño los viernes por los tacos Jack in the Box que traía a casa. En los años 90 abrió, operó y fue dueño de su propio bar. Le encantaba visitar a su familia en Ferris y viajó a Monterey, México para visitar a su familia allí. Como abuelo, le encantaba pasar su tiempo con sus nietos y bisnietos. 

A Lupe le precedieron en la muerte sus padres; hermanos: Mario Ortega, Lorenzo Ortega, Salvador Ortega; hermana: Alicia Ortega y un hijo pequeño. 

Le sobreviven su amada esposa Zenaida; hijos: Lilia y esposo Michael Garza de Red Oak, Texas, Leticia Ortega y esposo Mario Moreno de Dallas, Texas, Lorena y esposo Rene Duran de Ferris, Texas, Lorenzo Ortega de Dallas, Texas y Guadalupe Ortega Jr. de Dallas, Texas; 15 nietos: 10 bisnietos; hermanos: Gilbert Ortega de Pleasant Grove, Texas, Margarita Ortega de Monterey, México y Olivia Cantú de Dallas, Texas.
