Gonzalo "George" Gonzales, Sr. Obituary

Gonzalo “George” Gonzales, Sr., age 76, passed away on November 2, 2024. He was born on November 11, 1947 in Lamesa, Texas to Domingo Gonzales and Antonia Lopez. He grew up in Plainview, Texas where he graduated from Plainview High School in 1965. He was drafted into the Army, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War. After his military service, George moved to Dallas, Texas where he met the love of his life Pauline Martinez. They were married on January 29, 1972 and to their union was blessed two children: Gonzalo, Jr. and Vanessa Lynn. In Dallas, George began working in the canvas and awning industry, a passion he continued for over 40 years. After relocating to Red Oak, Texas, he built a family home and founded GPC Canvas and Awning, a business he ran with passion and dedication for over 30 years, right up until the end of his life. George had a lively sense of humor and loved making others laugh. He loved dancing Tejano music with his wife. He had a quiet strength and a deep spiritual life, reading his Bible daily. He had a lifelong love of sports, playing baseball in his youth with church teams and remaining a devoted fan of the Texas Rangers and the Dallas Cowboys. In his free time George could often be found restoring his classic car, tinkering on projects, or spending time with his family. He cherished family trips, including memorable vacations to Hawaii, Colorado, El Paso, Santa Fe, Puerto Rico, Florida and a Disney cruise. He also enjoyed trips to Oklahoma’s Choctaw Casino. George deeply loved and supported his children and grandchildren. His love of life, his family, and his work left an enduring impact on everyone who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Domingo and Antonia Gonzales and brother Joe Gonzales.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Pauline Gonzales; son Dr. Gonzalo Gonzales, Jr. and wife Norma; daughter Vanessa Lynn Gonzales; grandchildren: Mia, Viviana and Ava; sister Blanche Rodriguez, sister Ofelia Martinez and brother Manuel Gonzales; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and dear friends.

Visitation will be 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM, with Rosary at 6:00 PM Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Green Funeral Home -Red Oak, Texas.

Mass of Christian Burial time and date will be announced as soon as possible.

Inurnment will be at the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery at a later date.
