Garry Wahl Obituary

Garry Lee Wahl, a kind-hearted and quietly remarkable man, passed away on January 5, 2025, at the age of 64. Born on March 13, 1960, in Bozeman, Montana, Garry was the son of Harold Wahl and Evelyn Wirt. His life was one of simplicity, adventure, and a deep love for the small joys that made life worth living.

Garry was the kind of person who didn’t need to say much to make an impact. He was quiet and introspective, with a dry sense of humor that often caught people by surprise. Though he kept a small, tight-knit circle of friends, Garry’s loyalty and presence were felt deeply by those who knew him. His understated nature often hid a depth of thoughtfulness that was always there, if you knew where to look.

A lover of the outdoors, Garry spent many years hiking the Arizona desert in his younger days, and later, traveled to over 40 countries, gathering memories of landscapes, cultures, and experiences that shaped his view of the world. He wasn’t one for grand gestures, but he loved the quiet beauty of nature, whether it was hiking, camping, or simply sitting with a few close friends around a fire pit. Garry’s love for the outdoors extended to his passion for collecting rocks and geodes on his adventures—little treasures from the earth that he gathered with the same care he put into everything in his life. Garry was also a gifted cook who enjoyed experimenting with smoking and curing meats and  could always be counted on to turn a few meager ingredients into a delicious meal.

His love of life was expressed in many ways, including in his passion for NASCAR. He especially looked forward to attending a day at the races with his closest friends, cheering on his favorite driver, Chase Elliott. He had a knack for watching movies others would dismiss, often proclaiming that the cheesiest, campiest films were the greatest ever made—his love for the quirky and unconventional was part of his charm.

Hardworking and incredibly handy, Garry could fix just about anything. He had a natural talent for problem-solving and a patient, steady approach that earned him respect from those who knew him. His ability to repair the world around him was just one of the many ways Garry made life a little easier, a little better for everyone he encountered.

Garry is preceded in death by his father, Harold Wahl; his brothers: Daniel Wahl and Ronald Wahl; and his sister, Sandi Cason.

Garry is survived by his wife, Diane Wahl; his mother, Evelyn Wahl; his sister, Renee Spears; his twin brother, Larry Wahl; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
