Emmitt Dale Smith, 75, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on August 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones in the city where he was born and raised. Dale was a true jack of all trades and a man who lived life with purpose, faith and heart. He began his working life as a skilled butcher at Safeway, where he dedicated 18 years to serving his community. Later, he took to the open road, hauling cars for First Choice Transportation. He continued driving a big rig well into his later years- a testament to his strong work ethic and unwavering determination. Beyond his career, Dale had a deep love for the simple joys of life. He was an avid fisherman and a passionate sports fan who rarely missed a Texas Rangers game or a Sunday afternoon cheering on his Dallas Cowboys. But above all else, Dale loved the Lord. His faith was the foundation of his life and the compass that guided his every step. A talented musician, he shared his gift as a bass guitarist and lead singer in a gospel band, The Cooper Family, before later creating a country western group called Wheatstraw. It was through his music that he met the love of his life, Fondie, with whom he shared 41 beautiful years. Dale will be remembered for his warmth, his wisdom, and the joy he brought to everyone around him. His songs, his stories, and his steady presence will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his father Emmitt Norman Smith; his mother Florence Hilda Johnson; and his sisters: Lola Sewell and Norma Jo DeLeon.
He is survived by his beloved wife LuFonda "Fondie" Smith; his children: Stephanie & Jason, Keela & Jon, Renee, Christopher & Brandi, and Jeffrey & Katy. He was a proud grandfather to: Sydney & Chris, Jessica, Spencer, Lindsey, Dylan & Lindsey, Taylor, Lacey, Alli & Colton, Kyndal & Tyler, Madelynn, Cadence, Gracie, Claire, Christopher Jr., and Alexis; he is also survived by his great-grandchildren: Adilee, Damian, Marlee, Naomi, Myla, Scotty, Junior, Peyton, and Noah; his niece Debbie Oliver; and two nephews: Damon and Devin Baldree.
