Elaine King Obituary

Elaine King, 95, most recently of Sherman, TX , passed away peacefully February 28, 2025.    Elaine was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 6, 1929, the daughter of the late John and Winona Coffey of Ferris, TX where Elaine was raised.  She began her working career at the Bloom’s at the age of 12.    She then helped raise her two younger siblings after her father died when she was 14.   She married Bill King at the age of 19 on July 23, 1948 and began working for International Harvester Company while they raised their family.    Later Elaine worked for Baylor Health Care System in Dallas until her final retirement.   Elaine’s greatest joy was found in raising her children and being a grandmother and great-grandmother but her giving nature extended far beyond that immediate family to the many nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and co-workers whether it was encouraging words or assistance when needed.   Her second greatest joy was traveling, taking many domestic and international trips with her sisters Patsy and Galina.   She also enjoyed taking gambling trips with her brother Billy.  We always said she had gypsy in her soul!    She enjoyed beautiful things and making her surroundings beautiful—her homes and her yards which she tended herself.    Although she claimed to not like cooking, she left us with many favorite recipes that only GrandmaLane could make perfectly.   GrandmaLane sometimes commented that she had not accomplished much in her life, to which we reminded her of all the gifts she had given to so many over the years and a legacy of kindness that will be carried on by all those she touched.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bill King; her parents; two brothers: John Coffey and Billy Coffey; and sister Patsy Robinson.

She is survived by three children:  Linda Mosley and son-in-law Rick of Melissa, TX; Dianne Grussendorf and son-in-law Paul of Colleyville, TX; and Steve King of Denver, CO.; sister Galina Lewis and brother-in-law Jim of Victoria, British Columbia; seven grandchildren:  Jason Mosley, Amy Munger and husband Casey, Blake Grussendorf, Maddie Grussendorf, Madeleine King and husband Joe, Ian King and wife Stephanie and Reilly King; two great-grandchildren: Samantha Munger and Alyssa Munger, who affectionately referred to her as GrandmaLane and GG.

A Celebration of Life for Elaine will be held at a later date.
