Don Wayne Newman, Jr.

Don Wayne Newman, Jr., age 67, of Palmer, Texas, passed away July 10, 2024. Born in New London, Connecticut on November 11, 1956 to Don Wayne and Barbara Ann (Foster) Newman, Don’s life was marked by adventure and service. After his father’s military career, the family moved to the Dallas, Texas area when Don was just a baby. After his education, Don worked for his adopted father’s towing service after he completed his education. At the age of 18, he met the love of his life Linda Merkich. Their bond was unbreakable, spending 49 beautiful years together, marrying on April 11, 2024. In May of 1997, Don and Linda established Newman's Wrecker Service, a business that became a testament to Don's dedication and generosity. He was known for his selflessness, often stopping to assist strangers on the roadside, frequently without accepting any payment. His big heart led him to tow many people for free over the years. Don's vibrant personality made him the life of the party. With his great charisma, he never met a stranger. Nonjudgmental and godly, he was meticulous, a clean freak, and highly organized. A passionate drag racing enthusiast, Don and Linda shared a love for racing drag cars. Despite not being a fan of fishing, Don often took Linda out to fish, treating her like a princess and honoring her family throughout their life together. Don adored his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. He lived every day for them; exemplifying generosity, acceptance, and unconditional love. His presence will be missed, but his spirit and the values he lived by daily will continue to inspire all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents Don Wayne, Sr. and Barbara Ann Newman; brothers: Matthew Newman, Michael Newman and Robert  Newman; and aunt Sheila Foster. 

He is survived by loving wife Linda Merkich-Newman; sons: David Newman, Monty Newman and Matthew Newman; grandchildren: Gunner Newman and Kimberlyn Newman; sister April Howard; niece Dianna Howard; nephew Donald Howard, and uncle David Foster.

Visitation will be 1:00 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.

Memorial service will be 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at Green funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.
