David Joseph Perez, age 70, passed away on January 25, 2026. He was born on August 10, 1955, in San Antonio, Texas to Manuel Jesus and Louise (Broussard). At the age of 13, David and his family moved to Hutchins, Texas where he grew up and later graduated from Wilmer-Hutchins High School with the Class of 1973. After high school, David enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged in 1980. Following his military service, David devoted his life to public service as a firefighter. In 1985 he began his career with the Lancaster Fire Department, where he served with dedication and integrity for more than three decades until his retirement in 2017. Through hard work and leadership, David rose through the ranks to become Battalion Chief. He was respected for his steady guidance, calm presence and genuine care for both his fellow firefighters and the community he served. Outside of his professional life, David enjoyed the outdoors; he loved camping, fishing, and hunting and could often be found with a good war novel or a classic Western in hand. David was known for his love of family and his leadership within the community and will be missed by all who knew him. His impact as a veteran, a firefighter, a leader, and a family man will never be forgotten.
