Curtis David Moon age 87 of Ferris, Texas passed away September 30, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Waxahachie, Texas March 1, 1935 to the late Edwin David and Cora Lee (Earl) Moon. He attended Waxahachie High School and loved to build and race hot rods up and down the strip through town often out running the police. Curtis later joined the Navy, where he received his diploma and studied engineering. He served four years during the Cold War era. After the Navy he returned to Ellis County, Texas and begin a career with Texas Instruments as a Quality Control Manager. He was highly intelligent and thought of as genius by his colleagues and family even though he won’t admit to it. Curtis went on to own two skating rinks in Huntsville and Wilmer, Texas where he met and later married the love of his life Wanda Mae Houston. They got married September 18, 1963 and had wonderful life together for 59 years. He also owned the Hi Ho the Dairy-O in Ferris, Texas where he made an impact on the people of Ferris and made many, many friends. Curtis loved to work and stay busy, providing for his family and giving them anything and everything they wanted. He loved to tinker and fix things that would quit working that other people would just throw out, he loved the challenge. He is remembered as Papa and Papa Moon, always being a clown and a prankster. You always found Curtis happy and in good spirits with a cup of black coffee, he never let anything upset him and looked at the brighter side of things always making the best of any situation with patience and calm manners like no other. He served four years on the Ferris, Texas City Council as well as Mayor pro tem. Curtis never met a stranger, made friends with everyone and was loved by all. Curtis loved God above all else and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him. We can all set our mind at ease by knowing one thing for sure we know where he is today.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Edwin David and Cora Lee (Earl) Moon, brother Billy Moon and sister Helen Trull.
He is survived by loving wife Wanda Moon of Ferris; daughter Johnna and husband Paul Lugo of Red Oak; two grandchildren: Drew David and wife Priscilla Vaughan of Midlothian and Annie Vaughan of Ferris; eight great-grandchildren: Tristen Vaughan, Colten Vaughan, Klayten Vaughan, Dayton Cox, Austin Cox, Houston Cox, Brynlee Mendez and Skylar Holden; siblings: Ruth, Neva, and Don Moon.
