Cleda Ann (Dickerson) Mathews

Cleda Ann (Dickerson) Mathews, age 83 of Red Oak, Texas, passed away January 11, 2022. She was born in Ozark, Arkansas July 19, 1938 to the late T.H. and Louise (Chandler) Dickerson. Born and raised in Arkansas, the family moved to Texas where she met the love of her life Donald Ray Mathews at the skating rink, they later married September 28, 1952 in Grand Prairie, Texas. She graduated high school and later begin college at TWU, studying nursing and thus began her career in heath science. She  loved her work and continued her studies, earning her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and hoped to complete a Master’s degree in Nursing. Sometimes a serious individual, she loved the interaction with patients and other nurses. She retired as Supervisor of the tuberculosis department of the Dallas County Health Department. A big-time animal lover, she rescued everything she could find and attempted to save as many animals as possible. In her lifetime she traveled to several places in the world, but her trips home to Arkansas for family reunions were always so special. Other destinations include Big Bend, cruises to the Bahamas, Cancun Mexico, Alaska and Hawaii a couple times, (both times getting kissed by Don Ho). She is always loved and will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents and son Danny Ray Mathews.

She is survived by husband Donald Ray Mathews; daughter Penny and husband Richard Miller; grandchildren: Richard Lee Miller, Terry Don Miller, Gary Allan Mathews and Taran Miller; numerous great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren as well as other extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, January 13, 2022 at Green Funeral Home.

Funeral Service will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 15, 2022 at Green Funeral Home. 

Interment will follow at Ferris Memorial Park North.
