Carmel Rodriguez Swinney, age 81, of Red Oak, TX began her heavenly journey on December 6, 2023. She was born on June 27, 1942, to Justa Morales and Pedro Mendoza Rodriguez in Lamourie, Louisiana.
After graduating high school, Carmel started her family and worked as a jeweler. She raised her loving four children, Daniel, Theresa, Michelle, and Stephanie with a sense of sternness yet with a loving heart. Her children inherited her feisty spirit, leadership, and strong will. Carmel was outgoing, never meeting a stranger, and everyone became her friend instantly.
She was a loyal servant to her Savior, Jesus Christ. She lived her life with a servant’s heart, helping strangers in times of need. She read her bible daily faithfully; and shared her love for the Lord with everyone. She lovingly spoke about Him, and shared her daily devotions with family and friends. She was a long-time member of Eastridge Baptist Church and Cedar Heights Baptist Church. She set out to lead as many people to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Carmel loved to garden, and loved her three pet parakeets, Blue, Gray, and Little Girl. She loved to grill out and cook for her family. After retiring from the jewelry industry, Carmel loved watching her jewelry shows, especially teaching her daughters and granddaughters what “REAL” diamonds and gems look like. She was an avid coin collector, often researching the history of her coins. She was the ultimate pro at creating a charcuterie board before it was even popular. You could always find her at home watching and cheering on her Washington Redskins. She eventually learned to love the Dallas Cowboys again, as she did before the Jerry Jones era. She was happiest attending her Texas Ranger games with her family. She was able to see her beloved Texas Rangers WIN their first World Series this year! Although she loved the Rangers, her favorite ball players were always her grandsons. She was a devoted Grandma and often coached them on their baseball slide.
Carmel is preceded in death by her loving husband, James Carl Swinney (2020). They spent 28+ loving years together. She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Nicholas, Mary, Pedro Jr., Paulino, Cirildo, and Amelia. She is survived by her children Daniel and his wife, Tammy Guzman, Theresa and her husband, Shane Anderson, Michelle Guzman, Stephanie Guzman Pacheco, and Sarah and her husband, Robby Denton; grandchildren Lisa, Kalani, Erica, Richard, Trey, Bryan, Brent, Ciera, Ethan, Elijah and Ryder; great-grandchildren Jayden, Autumn, Antonio, “Little” Carmel and another little angel on the way. Living siblings are Marcelino, Preciliano, Beatrice, and Esperanza, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
