Carlton Kinney Smith, age 76 of Ovilla, Texas passed away April 15, 2023. He was born November 4, 1946, in Guymon, Oklahoma to the late J.C. and Billie (Blackburn) Smith. After Kinney’s birth, the family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico where he grew up. He then attended Sulross University in Alpine, Texas with a double major in political science and police administration. He then worked for the railroad for nine years as a telegraph clerk. He also served on the Sheriff’s department in Bruster County Texas and later, also with the Montgomery County Texas Sheriff’s department. He served as a Constable for Precinct 4 of Dallas County until his retirement in 2011. He was a longtime member of the Los Carnales motorcycle club for members who served in law-enforcement. He was affectionately known as Ringo (from the Beatles) for his love of playing the drums. Kinney loved classic country and played drums in several bands for over 25 years. He enjoyed traveling and had ridden his motorcycle through 19 states. He met the love of his life, Kelly Renee Piland. They had a biker wedding on September 19, 2009, in Cedar Hill, Texas. Kinney will be missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, J.C. and Billie Smith and a twin brother that passed at birth.
He is survived by his loving and dedicated wife Kelly Renee Smith of Ovilla, Texas; children: David Smith of Pasadena, Texas; Elbert Smith of La Porte, Texas; Lauralie and husband Kevin Pope of La Porte, Texas; four grandchildren: Lindsey and Nathan, Zachary, Lauren and Evan, and Shelly; two great-grandchildren: Evan Jr Delgado and Ariana Elizabeth Plunkett; brother Albert “Tubby” Smith and sister Jackie Anderson, as well as other extended family members and dear friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 AM, Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at Green Funeral Home Red Oak, Texas.
