Brenda "Joy" Rising Obituary

Joy Rising, age 67 of Red Oak, Texas, passed away on January 24, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 26, 1956, to Samuel and Camille Stovall in the car on their way to Harris Hospital. She married the love of her life, Lanny Rising, on May 30, 1993. She was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Joy would give anything to her children and husband to make sure they had everything they needed. If there was only one piece of cake, she would equally split it between her children. She loved visiting the casino and horse races when she was younger and could often be found playing Tetris on the old Nintendo. Joy was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) in 1988. In true Joy fashion she took that diagnosis and made the best of her life. She was known for her OCD personality and making sure everything was in its place like her water bottle that had to stay on the wheelchair. As she got older, and MS made it harder to travel she became an avid lotto player. Joy also enjoyed her frequent trips to Applebee’s or Juniors Barbecue where everyone knew her and her “usual” order. Wheelchair confinement caused her feet to swell which made it difficult for her to wear regular shoes.  In an effort to feel normal, she began wearing “shoe socks” which were simply socks with shoe patterns printed on them and she always made sure to put on her favorite Converse “shoes” before she left the house.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Sr. and Camille Stovall; brothers, Samuel Stovall Jr. and Martin Stovall; sisters, Ann Parker and Martha Haile; granddaughter, Aylin Ellena; and husband, Lanny Rising.

She is survived by daughter, Helen Aycock and husband David; son, Robert Sleeker and wife Robin, daughter, Jolene Nowakowski and husband Joel; Grandchildren Nicholas Aycock, Peyton Riner, Allie Nowakowski, Melody Moon, Adam Kirby, Olivia Kirby, Sophia Mamaliga, and Brittanie Rewinkel; great grandchildren, Rosie Aycock, Adrian Sanchez, Aliana Aycock, Arielle Aycock, Stormie Rewinkel, Izak Rewinkel, and Sylis Rewinkel; brothers, Jimmy Stovall, David Stovall, and Johnny Stovall; sisters, Mary Loving and Betty Bolten. Joy is also survived by her wonderful and devoted caregiver Ester Manchuca.

She will be loved and missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. And as Joy would often say “Oh Well”.
