Bonnie Joy Bemis, age 85, of Red Oak, Texas, passed away on April 27, 2026. She was born on August 4, 1940, in Arlington, Kansas. She graduated from Stafford High School in 1958. Following graduation, Bonnie married and settled down in Hutchinson, Kansas where she started a family. In 1959, she attended Venus Academy of Beauty Culture in Wichita. Soon after completion of her studies, she opened a beauty salon in her home. Bonnie and her family moved to Lancaster, Texas in 1974 where she continued her role as a devoted homemaker. In the early 1980s, Bonnie began working part-time for Braum’s Ice Cream & Dairy Stores. She thrived in her role at Braum’s and was eventually promoted to District Manager in charge of over 10 stores. After retirement, she spent time living in Missouri and later returned to Kansas before ultimately settling back in Red Oak in 2018. Bonnie was known for her serious nature and sharp personality. Beneath that toughness, she was deeply giving of her time and care to others. She had a special love for animals. She enjoyed watching birds at the feeder and spending time with her faithful companions, Bitsy and Lou Lou. Her faith was an important part of her life. She enjoyed attending Rockett Christian Church in Palmer, where she cherished not only her relationship with the Lord but also the food and fellowship shared with others. Bonnie found joy in simple pleasures. Acrylic painting, especially landscapes, brought her peace and creativity. She had a fondness for old classic southern gospel music and particularly enjoyed listening to Daniel O’Donnell. Known for her cooking, her fried chicken was a favorite among family and friends and will be fondly remembered.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles E. Bemis and Jessie A. Roberts, her brothers Richard Bemis, Lloyd Bemis, Gale Bemis, and James Bemis, her sisters Hazel Behrle and Dixie Wyatt, and lastly her grandson Aaron Vernon.
