Bobby Glenn Slayton, age 93, of Ferris, Texas passed away Friday, March 12, 2021. He was born in Crandall, Texas November 25, 1927 to the late Marvin Dewey and Lorene (Ramey) Slayton. His family later moved to Gastonia, Texas where he grew up on the farm his family worked as sharecroppers. He tended to the animals, milking cows and gardening: a passion and green thumb that continued all his life. He always planted a garden every year and had plenty of gardening advice to share with friends and family. Bobby graduated from Kaufman high school in 1944 and did bookkeeping for a local cotton gin during the harvest seasons. He proudly served his Country in the US Army during WWII in Korea as a medical technician attaining the rank of T-5. He received honorable discharge in March of 1947. In 1950 Mr. Slayton served as crew leader for the US census, after which he began work at the Forney State Bank. That same year he married Louise Duer on June 17, 1950. This union was blessed with six children. His work took him and his family to Baltimore, Maryland where he began working for Martin Co. in cost accounting. Later they moved to Ferris, Texas where he worked for Temco Aircraft and then on to Orlando, Florida working for Martin Marietta until his retirement. Bobby made his way back to Ferris, Texas enjoying his retirement years with his garden in the country. He will be missed by all.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife Louise (Duer) Slayton; wife Fay Slayton; wife Darlene Slayton; one daughter Deborah Cone; two brothers and four sisters.
He is survived by children: Dennis and wife Michelle Slayton of Winter Garden, Florida, John and wife Linda Slayton of Orlando, Florida, Cathy and husband Tommy Ucheik of Orlando, Florida, Donald and wife Rhonda Slayton of St. Louis, Missouri, Rodney and wife Patty Slayton of Fort Myers Beach, Florida; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; five siblings and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 AM Friday, March 19, 2021 at the Brown Street Church of Christ: 2471 Brown Street, Waxahachie, TX 75165
Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Friday, March 19, 2021 at Brown Street Church of Christ: 2471 Brown Street, Waxahachie, TX 75165
Interment will follow at 1:00 PM at Restland Cemetery Dallas, Texas.
