Hijo de José Isabel Rivera y Rosa Rivera, Benjamín aprendió el valor del trabajo duro desde temprana edad mientras crecía en Tamaulipas. Su camino también lo llevó brevemente a California, donde continuó trabajando y boxeando antes de regresar a Texas. Incluso en sus últimos años, ese impulso nunca lo abandonó. Una de las últimas cosas a las que se aferró fue la visión y determinación de abrir otro restaurante, continuando soñando, planeando y avanzando hasta el final.

Aunque gran parte de su vida se desarrolló en Dallas, se mantuvo conectado con sus raíces. Muchos de sus familiares, incluidas sus hermanas, vivían en las áreas de McAllen y Harlingen, y él procuraba visitarlas con frecuencia a lo largo de los años.

Benjamín conoció al amor de su vida, María Martínez, en McAllen, Texas, en 1991. Se casaron en 1993 y poco después se mudaron a Dallas, donde comenzaron a construir su vida juntos antes de expandirse a Ferris, Ennis y comunidades cercanas. Juntos, no solo formaron una familia, sino también un legado. Amó profundamente a su esposa, y ella estuvo a su lado en todo momento. En sus últimos años, María lo cuidó incansablemente—llevándolo a sus citas médicas, preparándole sus comidas y permaneciendo a su lado en cada desafío. Nunca se rindió con él y estuvo con él hasta sus últimos momentos.

En 1995, dieron la bienvenida a su hijo, quien se convirtió en una gran fuente de orgullo y felicidad en su vida. Fue un padre orgulloso que encontró alegría en criar a todos sus hijos, especialmente a su hijo, a quien a menudo decía que le brindaba felicidad a través de todos los desafíos de la vida.

Fue cofundador orgulloso del restaurante Tex-Mex Fiesta Grill. El negocio que construyó junto a su esposa, con determinación, sacrificio y visión, se hizo realidad cuando abrieron Fiesta Inn en 1997 en Ferris, Texas. Su dedicación le ganó el respeto de empleados, amigos y clientes leales que lo reconocían como un pilar de Fiesta Grill.

También fue un hombre entusiasta que amaba la conversación, especialmente cuando se trataba de negocios, política y deportes. Disfrutaba compartir sus ideas y pasar tiempo conversando con su hijo, familiares y amigos—momentos que serán profundamente extrañados por quienes lo conocieron mejor. Era un orgulloso aficionado de los Dallas Cowboys y a menudo se le veía usando su ropa del equipo, especialmente sus gorras, durante sus últimos años.

En su juventud, también disfrutaba salir, bailar y pasar tiempo con amigos antes de establecerse y construir una vida con su esposa y su familia.

Fuera del trabajo, Benjamín apreciaba los momentos sencillos de la vida. Tenía la capacidad de aportar luz a cualquier situación, equilibrando su carácter serio con calidez y sentido del humor. En sus últimos años, se retiró e invirtió en bienes raíces, manteniéndose activo y comprometido a pesar de enfrentar problemas de salud.

A través de esos desafíos de salud, Benjamín mantuvo firme su fe y continuó acercándose más a Dios. Confiaba en Sus planes, incluso en medio de las dificultades de la vida, y creía profundamente que Dios lo guiaba y le daba fortaleza. Hubo muchos momentos en su vida en los que se sintió protegido y sostenido en medio de las dificultades de una manera que solo el Señor podía entender. Permaneció agradecido con Dios en todo momento.

En sus últimos días, creyó profundamente en el perdón. No guardó resentimiento hacia nadie y encontró paz al dejar ir, eligiendo enfocarse en la fe, el amor y la vida que había vivido.

Benjamín deja un legado de perseverancia, sacrificio, amor, fe y paz. Formó al hombre en que su hijo se ha convertido hoy y construyó una base que continuará a través de las futuras generaciones. Falleció en paz, sabiendo que la obra de su vida y su familia estaban en su lugar.

Será profundamente extrañado, pero nunca olvidado.

Benjamin Rivera Martinez, 80, of Ennis, Texas, passed away peacefully. He was born on October 31, 1945, in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico.

Benjamin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and a hardworking man whose legacy lives on through his family and the business he built from the ground up. He is survived by his beloved wife, Maria Martinez, his son and his nine daughters, grandchildren, extended family members, and lifelong friends.

Born the son of Jose Isabel Rivera and Rosa Rivera, Benjamin learned the value of hard work early in life while growing up in Tamaulipas. During his younger years, he was very active and competitive, excelling in track and field where he earned recognition and awards. He later pursued boxing, where he showed great determination and had a strong run in the sport.

Driven by a desire for greater opportunity, he came to the United States, where he spent most of his life building his future in Dallas, Texas. He worked tirelessly in the restaurant industry—holding roles as a cook, dishwasher, waiter, busboy, and manager. His journey also took him briefly to California, where he continued working and boxing before returning to Texas. Throughout his life, he built strong relationships and left lasting impressions on everyone he met.

Before opening his restaurant, Benjamin managed the Big Town Inn in Mesquite, Texas, along with the restaurant Pueblo Grande from 1994 to 1996. These experiences helped shape his path and prepared him for what would become his life’s work.

Benjamin had a strong entrepreneurial spirit and was always looking toward the future. Over the years, he explored different business ventures and investments, constantly searching for new opportunities. In Ennis, he also opened Pollo Grill, where he served rotisserie chicken, further expanding his presence in the community before eventually selling the business.

He worked with properties—buying, improving, renting, and selling—always thinking ahead and planning for what was next. He loved discussing business ideas and could spend hours talking about investments, opportunities, and growth with his son, family, and friends.

Even in his later years, that drive never left him. One of the last things he held onto was the vision and determination to open another restaurant, continuing to dream, plan, and push forward until the very end.

While much of his life was built in Dallas, he remained connected to his roots. Many of his family members, including his sisters, lived in the McAllen and Harlingen areas, and he made it a point to visit them over the years.

Benjamin met the love of his life, Maria Martinez, in McAllen, Texas in 1991. They were married in 1993 and soon after moved to Dallas, where they began building their life together before eventually expanding into Ferris, Ennis, and surrounding communities. Together, they built not only a family, but a legacy. He loved his wife deeply, and she stood by his side through everything. In his final years, Maria cared for him tirelessly—taking him to doctor’s appointments, preparing his meals, and staying by his side through every challenge. She never gave up on him and was with him through it all up to his final moments.

In 1995, they welcomed their son, who became a great source of pride and happiness in his life. He was a proud father who found joy in raising all of his children, especially his son, whom he often said brought him happiness through all of life’s challenges.

He was the proud co-founder of Fiesta Grill Tex-Mex Restaurant. The business he built with his wife, through determination, sacrifice, and vision, became a reality when they opened Fiesta Inn in 1997 in Ferris, Texas. It later grew into multiple locations, including Ennis in 2001, Corsicana in 2004, and Mabank in later years. Benjamin and Maria took great pride in what they created, working long hours and pushing through every challenge to build something that would last for generations.

Known for his strong work ethic and leadership, Benjamin was a dedicated businessman. He was very direct and honest, and while he could be firm and demanding, it was always in pursuit of excellence and the success of the business he cared so deeply about. His dedication earned him the respect of employees, friends, and loyal customers who recognized him as a cornerstone of Fiesta Grill.

He was also an enthusiastic man who loved conversation, especially when it came to business, politics, and sports. He enjoyed sharing his thoughts and spending time talking with his son, family, and friends—moments that will be deeply missed by those who knew him best. He was a proud Dallas Cowboys fan and could often be seen wearing their gear, especially his hats, throughout his later years.

In his younger days, he also enjoyed going out, dancing, and spending time with friends before eventually settling down and building a life with his wife and family.

Outside of work, Benjamin appreciated life’s simple moments. He had a way of bringing light to any situation, balancing his serious nature with warmth and humor. In his later years, he retired and invested in property, staying active and engaged despite facing health challenges.

Through those health challenges, Benjamin kept his faith strong and continued to grow closer to God. He trusted in His plans, even through life’s struggles, and believed deeply that God was guiding him and giving him strength. There were many moments in his life where he felt protected and carried through difficulties in ways only the Lord could understand. He remained thankful to God through it all.

In his final days, he believed deeply in forgiveness. He carried no resentment toward anyone and found peace in letting go, choosing instead to focus on faith, love, and the life he had lived.

Benjamin leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, sacrifice, love, faith, and peace. He shaped the man his son has become today and built a foundation that will continue through future generations. He passed peacefully, knowing his life’s work and family were in place.

He will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Jose Isabel and Rosa Rivera; sisters: Delia Martinez-Rivera, Isabel Martinez-Rivera, San Juana Martinez-Rivera, Josefa Martinez-Rivera, and Maria de Jesus Martinez-Rivera.

He survived by his wife Maria Martinez; son Mario Martinez; daughters: Rosa Martinez, Elizabeth Martinez, Monica Martinez-Asencio, Ana Wallis, Belinda Martinez, Nancy Martinez, Sara Rodriguez-Martinez, Sonya Martinez and Barbi Martinez; 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and Sonia Sandoval; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Sunday, March 22, 2026 at Green Funeral Home - Ferris, Texas
