Betty Jane Dunn, aged 56, lost her fight with cancer on Thursday, July 18, 2019, in her hometown of Ferris, Texas. Born on May 11, 1963, in Dallas, Texas, Betty was a 1981 graduate of Ferris High School and received her BA in Film, Television, and Radio Studies from the University of Texas at Austin in 1992.Betty was known for her infectious laugh, adventurous spirit, kind nature, and love for her family and community. She enjoyed traveling, especially to Red River, New Mexico, and Cancun, Mexico; spending time at the pool with friends and family; attending blues concerts in the Austin, Texas area, especially Gary Clark Jr.’s shows; driving her Miata on a sunny day; and visiting local dog parks with her beloved pets. Betty spent most of her life in Austin, where she flourished. Betty’s tenacity, charm, and outgoing nature led to a successful career in digital advertising sales, and she won numerous awards such as the 2013 Pathfinder Award from Cars.com; 2011 Best Internet Rep from the Alliance for Women in Media Austin; 2011 Big Wigs Award for Digital Rep from the Austin Ad Fed; and 2008 Best Internet Rep from the American Women in Radio & Television. Additionally, for 16 years, Betty served as a board member for the Alliance for Women in Media in Austin, where she helped empower women in all forms of media. Betty is preceded in death by her parents Clifford Stanley Dunn and Bobby Ruth Lancaster Dunn, and her beloved pets Mia, Kato,and Snickerdoodle. She will be greatly missed by her partner Phil Balcar; sister Cindy Tomasovic; sister Susan Wade and her husband Guy; uncle Bill Dunn and his wife Joanna; niece Elizabeth Stringer and her husband Dalton; niece Christina Dulworth and her husband Trevon; niece Nicole Wade; nephew Clifford Wade; cousin Betty Jo Drake and her daughter Erica; cousins Brad Dunn and Keith Dunn; and numerous other family members and friends. A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 31, at Green Funeral Home in Ferris, Texas, at 2:00 pm, with a graveside service following at Ferris Memorial Park North. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to your local animal shelter.
